The journey begins with a stroll through into the Markha Valley, then continues via numerous isolated and scenic towns to the high Nimaling plain beneath Kang Yatse’stoyouwillring mountain. Following our ascent to the Kongmaru La, you will follow a less-traveled route to StokKangri base camp, a two-day approach to the peak with a wonderfully situated campsite and far-reaching vistas of Tibet and the eastern Karakoram Range. Day 03: Leh – Shey – Thiksey – Hemis
This day is dedicated to touring the area’s local monasteries. SheyGompa, near Leh, was formerly the summer residence of Ladakh’s rulers. Around Shey Palace, there are several Stupas and Gompas to visit. This palace was erected in the 17th century by DeldanNamgyal.
ThikseyGompa is around 17 kilometers from Shey. The monastery, which belongs to the Gelugpa order, is regarded to be one of the most beautiful in Ladakh.
Hemis Monastery is located 45 kilometers south of Leh and is one of Ladakh’s most visited and biggest monasteries. Hemis is a Drukpa order monastery that was founded in the early 17th century. The setting is ideal, with the monastery nestled in a lovely valley surrounded by streams and framed by tall Mani walls.

Day 04: Leh – Chilling
You will’ve gotten used to it and are set to go hiking. While walking through Markha Valley, a brief introduction to Ladakh’s Tibetan Buddhist world may be fully explored. Nimmo lies around 40 kilometers away along the trail that leads to Srinagar and Kashmir. On the way to Chilling, you will all have to cross the Indus on a small bridge and then continue along the left bank of the Zanskar River into the gorge. Chilling also serves as a gateway to the Markha Valley. You will be camping in chilling and will have a relaxing afternoon.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 05: Chilling – Skiu
You will meet the trek crew and pack-ponies after crossing Zanskar via box and Cable Bridge. These pack-ponies arrived one day ahead of schedule via Markha Valley. You will sort the ponies’ loads and set off on the first day of trekking down the thin route along Zanskar’s right bank to the Markha River’s and Main Valley’s confluence.
You will climb over the spur and can see south to where the toyouwillringZanskar ravine disappears around a bend. At this point, you will’ll head southeast into the Markha valley and continue on your way to the watered trees and turfs of the Skiu and Skays villages. At this point, the main trail into the Markha Valley from the north, the Ganda La, crosses our path.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 06: Skiu – Markha
You will mark a long day’s trek of around 7 hours by crossing and re-crossing the Markha watercourse to the 30 or 40 dyouwillllings that make up Markha Village (3800meters). The riverfront trail goes through some lush flora, but the higher valley gradients are uniformly brown and barren. You will pass numerous more decrepit monasteries mostly on way, which are often difficult to spot since they are high on valley slopes.
You will also pass by a pair of solitary houses, one of which has a prereq headdress. A tiny Gompa may be seen on a hill to the north of Markha. This walk from Skiu to Markha is as deserving of a day of hiking as any of the Himalayan hikes.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 07: Markha – Hangar
You will’ll keep climbing over Markha Village and travel eastwards, down into the Markha valley, to Hangkar, a suitable camping location. During today’s four to five-hour hike, you will’ll pass through more amazing monasteries, some ruined and some undamaged, testaments to the fact that this valley was once more densely populated than it is now. Another remarkable abandoned monastery is hidden betyouwillen the two villages that make up Hangkar Village, high on a rock-strewn hill. Tourists may often observe tiny herds of blue sheep (Bharal) grazing right next to the stream in this alpine valley.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 08: Hangar – Nimaling
It’s only a short trek to Nimaling today. The route ascends sharply to a plateau from which the valley opens up. The breathtaking vistas of Kang Yangtse, the valley’s highest mountain at 6,400 meters, lie ahead. There is no permanent base in this area. Shepherds bring their flocks of sheep, goats, and dzos (cows crossbred with yaks) to graze on the high-altitude pasture during the summer months. By midday, you will be in Nimaling. This is certainly worth doing and highly recommended because of the spectacular close-up views of Kang Yangtse, the tallest mountain in the Markha Valley at 6,400 meters.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 09: Nimaling– Kongmaru La
You will follow a very will route up to the Kongmaru La (5100 meters), which crisscrosses across the rock for the final 250 meters to the pass. It’s a two-hour climb. You will see views of the Eastern Karakoram Range from the pass. Kang Yatze enhances the southern environment by providing pleasingly knotted rock formations, buttresses, and pillars, some of which have striking hues. The first camping spot is Chuskirma, which has a few stone cottages and some harsh meadows.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 10: Kongmaru La – Martselang
You will’ll keep walking downhill, passing by a few magnificent houses, the highest in the valley. Then you will’ll travel through another part of the gorge with rocks strewn everywhere. As you will get closer to the picturesque hamlet of Sumdo, the canyon opens up a little, and shortly after, you will come to a jeep road that is being built into the valley.
Following that, you will’ll walk for an hour till you will see the buildings and vegetation of Martselang, which is located on the major Indus valley route. You will decide to take a train from here to the river valley underneath the Hemis Monastery, which will take us approximately an hour and take us through hundreds of stunning chortens.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 11: Martselang – Stok Village
In the early, you will take a vehicle to Stok village. In Stok Village, where the newly crowned young Ladakhi Ruler resides, you will discover a regal castle. In addition, there is a small museum with religious items and traditional clothes from the royal family. Before noon, there is still time to scout the castle and monastery in Stok. You will’ll start our walk-in to StokKangri after lunch with a 2-hour easy hike. You will are in a high and remote location in the Indus valley.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 12: Stok Village – StokKangri Base Camp
On a day, you will hike up to StokKangri’s base camp, which will take just a few hours. It’s a lovely campground on a grassy knoll beside a number of Mel-water streams. In the afternoon, you will take in the view from above the camp. The region above the camp provides spectacular views of nearby peaks like as GulapKangri, StokKangri, ParchaKangri, and others.

Day 15: StokKangri Base Summit
It’s a long and arduous summit day (at least 11 hours). You will cross a glacier at the base of the ascent after a very early start in the dark (1 a.m.). Although not technically difficult, the ascend to the peak is quite steep and requires the use of an ice ax and crampons. The summit path is difficult, and it requires some climbing on a loose (and occasionally cold) rock along an exposed ridge for a while. The greatest challenge, though, is the tremendous altitude. It takes five to seven hours to hike from camp to the peak.
The last hundred meters require extra caution as you cross the hills immediately below the top. In the distance, little Leh can be seen, and all around us, the Himalayan peaks, the Ladakh Range, and the faraway Karakorum stretch far beyond the horizon. You will pause at the summit for a few moments to take in the scenery and catch your breath before descending slowly and cautiously back to base camp.
Overnight you will stay at your guest house.
Day 16: StokKangri Base – Leh
You will’ll descend immediately from our base camp to Stok Village’s higher reaches, with its barley and buckwheat meadows. The jeeps will drive us back to the hotel in Leh from Stok.
